Moana open source? Almost! Disney Moana assets are available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License for you now.
Two beautiful assets from Disney’s animation Moana are free for download at disneyanimation.com.
Disney‘s initiative to make that work publicly available is meant to contribute to research in computer graphics, according to a statement published on their download page.
One of the assets is a volumetric cloud data set and the second one includes everything needed for the Motunui island scene, from the movie released in 2016. They were specifically chosen by Disney’s team because their complexity pulls aside the curtain to reveal the hard work that goes in this kind of film production.
The assets were made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License. So you’ll be able to adapt them as you like, copy, share, and even use them commercially.
