Top 3 Steam Deals for the week

I was on the toilet today when a brilliant thought occurred to me. Is that TMI? You’ll be alright.

Anyway, I thought it might be helpful to the ghetto gaming community if I scouted out amazing PC deals on a weekly or twice-weekly basis. So those of you who are also broke but love games can see what’s hot and what’s cheap.

Keep in mind, these are not reviews or personal endorsements. Rather, these are just the best deals I can find on premium or promising titles on Steam.

So here goes:

#3 – Way of Gold and Steel $6.99 $1.04

I’ve had my eye on this game since it came out. At the full seven-dollar ask, I didn’t want to take a chance on a game with 63 mixed reviews. But for a dollar? Yes!

Way of Gold and Steel is a pixel-style roguelike RTS. You lead your character around a procedurally-generated map and lead followers. Your character can also enter dungeons? and pick up items for use in the overworld.

This is sort of a wildcard pick. The game’s pixel graphics are pretty, and that’s what initially drew me to this game. Reviews call it clunky and confusing, but those are based on $7 price tag. I’ve got a hunch that this is going to be a decent dollar offering.

#2 – Shovel Knight  $14.99  $10.04

I’m actually the most excited about this game. But a price tag of more than $10 almost disqualifies it from Ghetto status.

Shovel Knight is an 8-bit style platformer starring a protagonist knight who digs up treasure and attacks enemies with his shovel. Of all the games on this list, Shovel Knight is the only one I’ve had the chance to play. It is hard to put down. The great, candy-like graphics make you feel gooooooood. This is 8 bits at their best. The style is true to the olden days of gaming, but with modern attention to detail we’ve come to expect.

The gameplay is incredibly slick and responsive. Old school platformers don’t work with shoddy controls, so that’s awesome.

The bosses are cool, the play is fun and challenging. And since the game already has a bit of a cult following, I guess it doesn’t really need to go on sale. In fact, Shovel Knight currently has over 5,000 reviews with an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating. That’s pretty hard to do.

It is awesome that this is on super Steam Sale. You might want to get it. If it was $5 instead of $10, this game would easily make my list’s #1 spot.

#1 – Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition 14.99 $2.99

Say what!?

Guacamelee! is a terribly popular. The Super Turbo Championship Edition has fewer than 700 reviews, but the Gold Edition has over 5,000. Both editions are on sale for around the same price, or you can get STC Edition and Gold edition and the soundtrack for $3.99.

Guacamelee! is a Mexican-wrestler cartoon-style Metroidvania brawler. I know, right? That sounds crazy, and I believe it will be. Reviews are 95 percent positive. I’m going to get it. The graphics are gorgeous and the overall production looks very intense and polished. Maybe I’ll even review it!

Till then!
